Which is better, SureSmile or Invisalign?
Both SureSmile and Invisalign provide excellent results for patients. However, we partnered with SureSmile for two key reasons: it can mean a more affordable and shorter treatment for our patients. SureSmile also focuses on precision and efficiency, which is involved in generating faster results.
What is a clear aligner treatment like?
The majority of your treatment will consist of simply wearing your SureSmile trays. The trays do all the work for you. However, timely treatment depends on wearing your trays for at least 20 to 22 hours per day (the longer, the better). Generally, you will only want to take them out for eating and when you clean your teeth.
For most patients, you will receive new trays every 2 weeks. You simply switch the old ones out for the new ones. Thus, your treatment continues. We also see patients in the office for check-ups every 4 to 6 weeks to ensure your treatment is going smoothly.
How do I clean my aligners?
You will certainly want to clean your aligners. Otherwise, bacteria can build up in them and cause additional oral health issues. You can clean the trays by using a soft-bristled toothbrush and cool water. This will manually remove any food debris from the trays.
Is clear aligner treatment painful?
By the nature of orthodontic treatment, some discomfort is normal. We will not lie to you and say it is a walk in the park. However, most patients find it an easy-to-tolerate experience. While some discomfort is normal, keep in mind a few things:
- SureSmile is more comfortable than traditional braces.
- Discomfort usually improves a couple of days after starting a new set of trays.
- The SureSmile system can include a device that helps improve comfort (and speed up treatment). This can make it even more comfortable than Invisalign.
How long does treatment take?
A typical treatment for SureSmile clear aligners takes an average of 12 months, up to several months faster than Invisalign. Patients with mild misalignment may wrap up treatment in as few as 6 months, while more complex cases can take up to 18 months. When evaluating your case, we will provide an accurate, individualized timeline for your treatment. You can ensure an optimal treatment time by:
